  Popped in without a reservation - left with quite a few. Starters described as 'breaded' were deep-fried, over cooked, and the fillet of beef for £24.95 that was slopped on my plate was disgraceful. A palid, tough piece of leather and the meal which came to £80 was completely unspectacular.
  
  The whole meal felt boshed together without a care, using low quality ingredients not even properly cooked. I felt like a cash-cow and for the money I paid, expect a good deal more.
  
  The service was ok although I left with the feeling that the staff must be terribly underpaid - I put two fifties down and the young girl attending asked if I wanted to keep the change. I thought she was talking about the service charge, but became clear she meant all of it.
  
  Question for the management - do you allow your staff their tips?
  
  This is obviously a tourist trap run by a chain - sad news for Wells and the last time it gets my custom.

  The staff were helpful and nice, the surroundings, with views over the cathedral green were lovely, but sadly the food was a disappointment ( especially as I had eaten well there in the summer) Arrancini made with pasta and not rice, Putanesca was all olives, no capers or anchovies and the Arrabiata that my partner had looked like something the dog sicked up, with great lumps of bacon. Such a shame - we will not go there again
